Mandarin Oriental Washington, DC
The Mandarin Oriental Washington, DC, which opened Spring 2004, is Washington’s first five-star hotel and a new property in the Mandarin Oriental’s global luxury hospitality group. The Mandarin Oriental called upon the Ralls Collection to create an art collection linking the hotel to the Washington community, and at the same time honoring the Mandarin’s Asian heritage. In response, The Ralls Collection assembled a body of work by local and international artists that harmonized the beauty of the Asian aesthetic with the elegance and mission of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. Inspired by selected pieces from the Smithsonian Institution’s Freer and Sackler Galleries, The Ralls Collection sets out to educate guests of the Mandarin Oriental to the wealth of cultural resources in Washington through its museums, galleries and local artists.
